Healing with Yoga

How does healing take place in our body?
When you have a scratch or a wound somewhere on the body, what happens? You apply some ointment to it and slowly that wound heals. To support body for such healing we protect the wound by applying an ointment or a bandage . If we do not protect it from outside infections, the healing will be delayed.

Similarly, if a hand or leg bone gets fractured, what does Doctor do? He ties plaster placing those broken bones together for 3-4 weeks and during that period those bones get joined.

Our body heals wound by producing new cells of skin. It heals fracture by generating new bone cells. There is no laboratory which have capability to generate such cells of skin, bone or blood artificially. Our body on its own produces them to repair the damage. This is body's magical healing power.

In our daily routine a lot of wear and tear undertakes in the body. Thousands of cells get broken or destroyed within the body, in different organs and on the top layer of the skin. Body keeps on repairing and producing new cells continuously. We need to support this healing just by not interfering the
process and by keeping ourselves physically and mentally fit.
What should we do to support this healing?
  1. Taking proper diet and nourishment
  2. Minimum six hours  sleep.
  3. Regular exercise to improve blood circulation throughout the body
  4. Protecting body from new damages caused by -
    • stress
    •  unhealthy routine
    •  unhealthy food
    • indulging in wrong habits like drugs or smoking etc.
With healing body system's functions will improve, like -
  • elevates a sense of calmness in the nervous system.
  • the relaxation response boosts the immune system and
  • counters the negative effects of stress
  • increases mental clarity and adaptability to day-to-day situations.
  • absorption of nutrition or elimination of waste will take place properly.
  • cells’ absorption of oxygen and nutrients increases
  • this results in quick tissue repair
  • all heath issues will be resolved quickly.

How does Yoga treat Disease?
Yoga tries to re-establish the inner balance of the person by various means. Different yogic techniques come to our help here - like Asanas, Pranayama, Relaxation, Meditation.
  • Asanas improve muscle strength and flexibility
  • Balancing Asanas improve concentration of the person which results in improved concentration of each and every cell of his body. This improves functioning of the cells and eventually of the organs and the systems.
  •  Asanas when practiced with proper breathing it gives very soothing effect to the  nerves, calms mind, balances hormonal system.
  • Asanas and  Pranayamas help to keep mind steady and since an unsteady mind is the source of disease, it happens that the practice of yoga helps in the management of certain diseases.
  • Further it helps in establishing healthy routines, right habits, change in values, priorities, motivations. Basically it is a training process and healing happens automatically when you are following it properly.
Yoga offers people an opportunity to dive into their own bodies with acceptance and gratitude to experience healing. The desperate need to see the benefits from Yoga right away could make you miss the real point of it.
